2010 Fundraising

Towcester Tearooms 2010 fundraising challenge is in aid of:

- The South Northants Alzheimer's Society (50%)

- Coeliac UK (Northants Branch) (50%)

Tony is a volunteer member of the local Northants Alzheimer's society. Coeliac UK, is the national charity supporting people with coeliac disease, which is caused by an intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye (some coeliacs react to oats too) yet it can be treated very successfully by excluding gluten from the diet.

Tea Dance: Sunday March 21st we will host our popular annual Tea Dance at Towcester Town Hall (Sharon is a Latin & Ballroom Dancer). Tickets can be purchased from the Tearooms on 01327 358200. Start time is 3.00pm and the £5 entrance fee provides a Cream Tea and over 2 hours of fun filled dancing.

May Day Fayre: We will again be hosting a stall at the Towcester May Day Fayre on Monday May 3rd where we will be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts from midday onwards.

As always all monies 100% raised throughout the year will be going towards the two charities involved.

As in previous years the fundraising will culminate in a fundraising challenge involving Tony. This year the challenge will be to Kayak the length of the River Thames from its source in Gloucestershire through London and beyond the Thames barrier - a total of 215 miles. Tony will set off on this unique challenge in mid August and will include the navigation of 45 locks, parts of the river that require permission to pass and also the iconic buildings and views of central London. He said of the challenge "as someone who has never been in a kayak and is not a fan of the water this will be completely outside my comfort zone". Tony has called upon the help of a tearooms customer Andy Mallon a local man who originally hails from South Africa. Andy has completed in a number of Kayak endurance races back home including the famous Dusi 3 day marathon event.

2009 Fundraising

Towcester Tearooms 2009 fundraising challenge was in aid of:

- The Alzheimer's Society (50%)

- MacMillan Cancer Support (50%)

Tony was joined by local challengers in successfully completing the 1,165 mile cycle from Lands End to John-O-Groats.

The total amount of money raised was a fantastic £23,614.

Sharon & Tony would like to thank all those customers who have given generously over the past 9 months in helping us reach this fantastic total.
