2010: The Thames River Challenge

Towcester Tearooms 2010 fundraising challenge is in aid of:

- The South Northants Alzheimer's Society (50%)

- Coeliac UK (Northants Branch) (50%)

Tony is a volunteer member of the local Northants Alzheimer's society. Coeliac UK, is the national charity supporting people with coeliac disease, which is caused by an intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye (some coeliacs react to oats too) yet it can be treated very successfully by excluding gluten from the diet.

As always all monies 100% raised throughout the year will be going towards the two charities involved.

As in previous years the fundraising will culminate in a fundraising challenge involving Tony. This year the challenge will be to Kayak the length of the River Thames from its source in Gloucestershire through London and beyond the Thames barrier - a total of 215 miles. Tony will set off on this unique challenge in mid August and will include the navigation of 45 locks, parts of the river that require permission to pass and also the iconic buildings and views of central London. He said of the challenge "as someone who has never been in a kayak and is not a fan of the water this will be completely outside my comfort zone".

To date Tony has passed both his 1 Star and 2 Star Kayaking courses and is now regularly found on the waters of Northants and Bucks as he puts in the invaluable miles in his arms.

2009: "LEJOG"

Towcester Tearooms 2009 fundraising challenge was in aid of:

Tony was joined by local challengers in successfully completing the 1,165 mile cycle from Lands End to John-O-Groats.

The total amount of money raised was a fantastic £23,614.

 

2008: A Triple Challenge

Towcester Tearooms 2008 fundraising challenge was in aid of:

The Ridgeway House Care Home - Towcester

In April 2008 Tony completed a unique triple challenge of the Paris Marathon, Cycle to London and then the London Marathon, all in the same week.

The total amount of money raised was £3,400.

 

2007: Kilimanjaro

Towcester Tearooms 2007 fundraising challenge was in aid of:

Tony climbed the worlds tallest free standing mountain, Kilimanjaro "The Roof of Africa".

The total amount of money raised was over £5,500.

 

2006: The New York Marathon

Towcester Tearooms 2006 fundraising challenge was in aid of:

26 miles covering the 5 borough's of the worlds craziest city.

The total amount of money raised was over £4,500.
